If you are renting an apartment or home, you should know your legal rights. There are instances that may come up which may require you to seek legal advice. If you run into problems with your landlord, you may need to take legal action against this individual. Knowing some of the most common reasons that you may need a lawyer may come in handy if you're a tenant.

Reason #1: You've been evicted

Being asked to leave the rental property is less than ideal. This can be a stressful time for you and could cause you undue anxiety. There are specific reasons that must be legally provided if you are asked to leave the rental property.

Listed below are things that could lead to your eviction:

1.  You fail to pay the rent in a timely manner.

2.  You cause damage to the rental property voluntarily.

3.  You don't report needed repairs to the landlord.

4.  You are practicing illegal activity on the premises.

Reason #2: You've been injured

Did you recently fall off the porch because it wasn't properly enclosed? What about a hole in the floor that caused a slip and fall accident? If you have been injured in any way due to the negligence of the landlord, you may need to pursue legal action.

It's typical when you enter a rental agreement that you will need to put down a security deposit. This will help ensure the property is held for you. Additionally, if there is any damage done while you're living on the property, this money will be put towards this expense.

However, if you have left the rental unit in good condition and still haven't received your security deposit back, you may need to pursue legal action.
